  2. You need an HDTV with a built-in digital tuner.

But wait…

Don’t I need an HD digital antenna?

No. Technically, HD antennas do NOT exist. Therefore, all antennas can be called HD antennas. Digital antennas do NOT technically exist either. The only exception to this would be if they had a built-in preamp, and even that is up for question. The (sort of) part: A preamp technically processes digital data, but it is NOT required to receive HD digital TV channels.

Instead of an “HD antenna” and “Digital antenna,” high definition and digital broadcasts are done on the broadcasting side from the TV stations and inside your TV. If you have a flatscreen HDTV made after 2005, it likely has a built-in digital TV tuner and will receive HD digital channels even with a bare piece of copper wire, if close enough to the TV Station.
