How much does antenna installation cost?
Most installations range from $650–$1,250 depending on signal conditions, roof height, equipment needed, and the number of TVs. A $99 site & signal evaluation is applied to approved work.
How many channels can I get with an antenna?
Most West Michigan homes receive 40–70+ free channels, including local news, sports, and entertainment. Networks can include ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, The CW, ION, and more. Actual channel counts vary by location and signal conditions. Check our Channel Search for a more accurate lineup.
Will an antenna work in my area?
Probably, but every location is different. Trees, terrain, nearby buildings, and distance from broadcast towers all affect reception. A signal evaluation determines exactly what’s available at your home. A online Channel Search at TransitionTV.com under “Channels” can give you a close idea what to expect.
Do antennas need internet to work?
No. TV antennas receive free over-the-air broadcast signals directly from local stations and do not require internet, cable, or a streaming subscription. NextGen ATSC 3.0 signals set to be fully live at the end of 2027 will broadcast different than 1.0 digital signals. The 3.0 signals will essentially stream like the internet, but does not require internet to work. This allows for pausing LIVE TV, viewing recaps and highlights, and more. Still all internet free.
How long do antennas last?
A quality outdoor antenna setup can last 30 years or more. Most issues over time involve weathered cables, connections, amplifiers, or storm damage rather than the antenna itself. Cheap online DIY setups often last 1 to 5 years max. That’s why professional antenna installations are always the cheaper/more reliable option long term. So, you can try 10 to 20 antennas over the next 30 years, or have it done right the first time with Transition TV. Buy right, or buy twice!
Can bad weather affect TV reception?
Sometimes. Heavy rain, snow, ice, high winds, or severe storms can temporarily weaken signals. And surprisingly, clear skies, yes clear skies can cause worse reception than clouds. That’s because TV antenna broadcasts are under the clouds and don’t have to work through them like satellite. TV signals will often bounce off clouds and allow them to work at longer ranges. The major thing that affects TV reception, is wind. Wind blows not only the trees around your home, but the entire sea of treas across the horizon, where the TV signals shoot across. Any disruption to the horizon, can sometime fragment the signals. But a properly installed and aimed antenna system minimizes weather-related interruptions.
Do Smart TVs Work With Antennas?
Yes. Most Smart TVs have a built-in tuner and work extremely well with an antenna just like any other TV. The antenna provides free local channels, while the Smart TV features provide access to streaming apps and internet content. Combined, most smart TVs will produce over 400+ free channels under one guide.
Can One Antenna Feed Multiple TVs?
Yes. A properly designed antenna system can serve multiple TVs throughout a home. The equipment needed depends on the signal strength, cable lengths, and the number of televisions being connected. The most Transition TV has even hooked up are 104 from a single antenna to serve an assisted living community. There is no limit with the right expertise and equipment.

Why does my TV pixelate or break up?
Pixelation is usually caused by a weak or unstable signal. Common causes include antenna alignment issues, damaged coax cable, loose connections, interference, trees, or severe weather. Check our “Channels” page to see if it’s the weather causing your issues or if you need service.
Why do channels disappear or come and go?
Changing weather, seasonal foliage, nearby construction, signal interference, or equipment issues can cause channels to appear and disappear. A signal evaluation can identify the source of the problem. Try shutting off your LED and fluorescent lights to see if the antenna is picking them up. Other things to check for are wireless chargers, power tool chargers, running laptops or desktop computers, holiday lights, essential oil LED difusers, bug zapper lights, etc.
Why is my antenna worse on sunny days?
TV signals can be affected by atmospheric conditions, signal reflections, and interference. In some locations, reception may actually be worse on certain clear, sunny days than during cloudy weather. Professional testing can identify the cause and improve reliability. Keep in mind TV antenna broadcasts are a wireless signal and are all under the clouds, unlike satellite signals that have to get through them from space. As a result, humid summer, lush foliage, sunny, plus windy days are your biggest culprits for fluctuating TV signals.
Why do some TVs work better than others?
Different TVs have different tuner sensitivity and signal-processing capabilities. One TV may receive a marginal channel perfectly while another struggles with the same signal. Sometimes it’s because some rooms have longer coax wiring before they reach the TV. Other times it’s the TV tuner itself. And in Tablo, HDHomerun, Zapperbox, or Converter boxes, they may have more than one tuner inside, dividing your signal in two.

Repairs start with a $99 site & signal evaluation, which is applied to approved work. Most repairs range from $125–$350 including the evaluation fee, depending on the problem and parts required.

Absolutely. Water intrusion, corrosion, damaged connectors, and aging cable are common causes of poor reception.

How much does Starlink installation cost?
Most Starlink installations range from $350–$450, depending on mounting requirements, cable routing, and equipment location. Some installations may be more depending on complexity of installation, roof pitch and safety, long cable runs, etc. Each install starts with a $99 evaluation that’s applied toward approved jobs.
Can Starlink replace my cable internet?
For many homes, yes. Starlink provides high-speed internet almost anywhere with a clear view of the sky.
Does Starlink need a clear view of the sky?
Mostly yes. Trees, buildings, and other obstructions can reduce performance and cause interruptions. No more than 10% edges-obstruction within a 180 degree overhead view for best performance. In other words, are trees taller than 50 feet tall, within 50 feet of your home? if so, you may not be able to use Starlink. An evaluation appointment with Transition TV can answer this for you if you are unsure.
Can Starlink work during bad weather?
Usually yes. Heavy rain, snow, or severe storms may temporarily reduce performance, but Starlink generally remains usable unlike other Satellite services. Starlink has little downtime even in the harshest weather.
Can you relocate or repair a Starlink system?
Yes. Existing systems can often be moved, upgraded, repaired, or remounted for better performance.
🗑️ Removal
How much does antenna or dish removal cost?
Most removals are $175. Equipment is removed from the roof and placed curbside for disposal by the homeowner. Any jobs that take longer than one hour will be discussed before work proceeds and estimated accordingly. Most jobs take one hour or less.
Should I remove an old satellite dish?
If it’s no longer being used, removal can improve appearance and eliminate unnecessary roof penetrations and hardware.
Will removing an old antenna damage my roof?
No. Mounting points are properly sealed to help protect against future leaks.
Can you remove antennas, dishes, and unused mounts?
Yes. Most roof-mounted antennas, satellite dishes, masts, and related hardware can be removed.
What happens to the equipment after removal?
Removed equipment is typically placed curbside. Haul-away service is not included. Marketplace ads for free scrap metal are the best way to get rid of old material if your garbage service does not allow them in your waste bins.

What areas do you service?
Transition TV serves Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, Grand Haven, and many surrounding West Michigan communities. We drive within 100 miles of Grand Haven, but will offer exceptions up to 200 miles for new installations and existing customers.
Do you offer same-day appointments?
Not usually. Most appointments are scheduled in advance to allow adequate time for each customer. We sometimes have next day openings, but generally are booked one to two weeks out.
Do you work on businesses?
Limited commercial work is available, but services are primarily focused on residential customers. Businesses may apply using our online form under webpage: Services >> Commercial.
Can I call or text the business number?
Yes. Calls and text messages are welcome during normal business hours. Text number is reserved for existing clients only. Please do not text our office line at 616-953-6184 as we will not recieve it.
